June 28, 1943. Sergente Maggiore (Sgt. Major) Ennio Tarantola shoots down a P-40E Kittyhawk over the Isle of Sardinia for his eighth aerial victory. As a boy, Tarantola sold fruits from a pushcart, forever earning him the nickname that later adorned the cowling of his Macchi C.202 Folgore. DAI BANANA! translates to "GO BANANA!" and served to remind his adversaries whom they were flying against. |
