Re: VIDEO: Frecce Tricolori and CF Snowbirds over Ottawa June 25, 2024

The Freece Tricolori are good ambassadors. I never seen two teams work together and I'm amazed at the coordination. They probably did not spend much time flying together and in one formation they do the arrow head or a full arrow, very cool.

VIDEO: Frecce Tricolori and CF Snowbirds over Ottawa June 25, 2024

Outside of US aerobatic teams, the Freece Tricolori are probably the best known for the many exciting shows they have put on around the globe and often winning global competitions. In the video below a combined teams display Freece Tricolor + Canadian Snowbirds do a flyby over Ottawa two weeks ago o...

Yes the top-side camo RLM 75 was applied freehand, below is the article posted a little while ago and it discusses the camo in some detail under "Construction":

Re: CANT Z-506

Here's a list of MM and corresponding Serie, unfortunately Serie XII is missing. I think you can say the Serie manufactured in 1942 and after had the 12.7mm guns installed. As you know, L'Arsenal made a resin 1/72 12.7mm Scotti MG.

Gino: the Caproni-Lanciani Delta "Type E" turrets could accept the following guns: 1) Scotti-I.F. 7.7mm 2) Scotti-I.F. 12.7mm (0.5 caliber) 3) SAFAT-Breda 7.7mm Starting from Z.506B Serie XII, the Caproni-Lanciani Delta "Type E" turrets were armed with 12.7mm Scotti-I.F. guns. If you look at the las...

The Churchill Letters

The Churchill Letters by Marc Roland In another thread on this forum the Churchill Papers were touched upon in an off-topic discussion. Above is an interesting article written by Marc Roland in the Barnes Review Sept/Oct 2010 discussing this subject in some detail. The article is based on an extrac...

VIDEO: La Celebrazione del XIX Annuale dell'Aeronautica

Here's an old Luce film (video) celebrating the 19th Anniversary of the Regia Aeronautica in Rome. The celebrations took place on August 1942. Japanese and German officials are present at the celebrations and there's also a fly-over by three P.108Bs. Also there's some very young cadets marching, in ...

VIDEO: Myths, Misconceptions and Revisionism WW2 Italy

Here's an interesting video documentary, it’s a little long about 2hrs but covers allot of ground. The video tackles the myths, misconceptions and revisionism associated with Italy in WW2. It’s accurate and the author is knowledgeable and is likely a historian. Outside of Italy, you really don’t see...

Re: Movie "Comandante" with Pierfrancesco Favino

The movie tells the story of the submarine commander Salvatore Todaro, in particular the story of the Belgian cargo ship Kabalo which was sunk by Todaro's submarine who, however, despite the orders received, wanted to save the crew. When Donitz found out about it, he reproached the Italian commande...

Re: Cant.Z. 1007 mimetica policiclica: 2 or 3 colors?

Very interesting photos. 1) In the first photo CANT Z.1007bis 190-3, the colors are the three tone C10A Serie Mimetica colors, not the Tavola X colors. You can clearly see Verde and Marrone mimetico, and the Giallo on these planes almost always appears closer to white in black and white photos while...

Re: Cant.Z. 1007 mimetica policiclica: 2 or 3 colors?

Most CANT Z.1007bis were completed before 1942, so the Serie Mimetica colors apply to those machines. About 100 Z.1007bis were completed in 1942, the Tavola X colors would apply to those planes, however only after existing paint stocks were exhausted and even then, were likely finished in the Contin...

Welcome to Stormo. 1) Gray in the banded schemes – Riccardo posted an original drawing from Fiat that showed the use of Gray in the banded scheme many years ago on Stormo, and later, discussed more thoroughly by Stefano in his Vito charts (see imgs 36-39): https://www.stormomagazine.com/RegiaAeronau...

Re: VIDEO: Fronte Aereo - In un campo con i piloti del ANR 2° Gruppo Caccia Italiano.

That's a good observation, the middle part of the fasci is indeed painted over, likely with RLM 74 which suggests the fasci undersurface, on this plane, was painted all white. As to why they painted the fasci background white when they stopped doing this in May 1944 G.55s (1a Sq three-tone splinter ...

VIDEO: Fronte Aereo - In un campo con i piloti del ANR 2° Gruppo Caccia Italiano.

Some may recognize the images in the following Luce film (unfortunately there's no sound) of ANR 2o Gruppo from Ferdinando D'Amico's book (now sadly passed away) "Camouflage and Markings of the Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana 1943-1945" - Ferdinando used frames from this film in his book. The ima...
