Re: C200 Detail painting

Dennis

As luck would have it, this very machine is the subject of another thread down the page a bit. I haven't re-read it in detail but it may have some of your answers.

Re: Macchi C.202 structural question

Thanks again! It's a head-scratcher for sure. I can't imagine that an opening so large, was for anything other than a second cockpit. But I agree with you - I also can't imagine how that could have worked! The structural, balance, and aerodynamic issues (would it not have blanked off the rudder?) se...

Re: Macchi C.202 structural question

Thanks Vince! To the best of my knowledge though, the lower drawing is the typical C.202 structure; and the usual method of attaching the separate turnover structure directly to the skinning and tops of the frames, worked well enough. Such a major change to the framing as in the upper drawing, seems...

Re: Squadron Books

I loved "Aircraft in Profile!" The first REAL reference material I saw as a kid. My parents gave me some bound volumes as birthday and Christmas gifts, and I eventually rounded up the whole series. Now for some good news - the ENTIRE series (and a lot of other interesting stuff) is available as scan...

Macchi C.202 structural question

A small mystery: these two photos have appeared in several books...with no comment on the obvious large diff between them. Note that the C.202's fuselage had 19 vertical frames, numbered in factory drawings from 0 (firewall) to 18 (tail cone attachment). The lower shot has the three normal upper ope...

Re: Salve tutti! and of course a Macchi 202 question

The oft-reproduced manual drawings do show two versions of the C.202's wing, i.e. both with and without the gun bay built-in. My hunch is that the earliest a/c with "poached egg" or solid green camo, did not have the gun bay, and one can back that up with photos that do not appear to show the small ...

Re: Salve tutti! and of course a Macchi 202 question

Wow, what a superb model! That's the best representation of the difficult "poached egg" camo I've ever seen.

Re: Salve tutti! and of course a Macchi 202 question

Many thanks - a most interesting discussion! Also thanks to RiK for that shot of MM 7731 with wing guns! I had a vague memory of seeing it before, and unsuccessfully searched for it before making my previous post with photo of MM 7768, LOL... This brings up interesting questions about when the wing ...

Re: Retired In Kalifornia's Aeronautica Macchi C.201 & C.200bis Model Builds

Thanks for posting, those are excellent! Never seen these prototypes as models, as far as I can recall.

It is indeed interesting to wonder how production versions of these might have fared in combat.

Re: Salve tutti! and of course a Macchi 202 question

Speaking of the new 1/32 scale Italeri kit, no less an expert than Maurizio Di Terlizzi has posted some excellent comments on improving it.

Re: Salve tutti! and of course a Macchi 202 question

To back up what the Editor said, most of my sources state that Macchi started building-in the wing gun bays, before the weapons were actually installed. Any aircraft for which that was true, could presumably have had the guns added. And, there are many photos of C.202's with wings swapped from other...

Good news: kit looks VERY nice.

Bad news: MSRP in the US - $178.00. Ouch.

Re: 1 32 scale Macchi 202

Italeri's online catalog has this spread on the new kit. It will have a complete engine.

It would be interesting to know why the photo of the C.202D prototype is included...maybe the kit will have parts for multiple versions?
