Early Breda-built C.202 camo

Mostly just a random observation - but would appreciate any comments! Some older sources (notably Ali e Colori no. 4) state that Breda production of the C.202 sported desert colors from the beginning, but lately I've read that some may have received the early all-green "continental" upper surfaces. ...

C.200 / C.202 / C.205V landing gear colors?

This seems like it shouldn't be that hard to figure out, but it has me stymied! What color(s) are the gear struts of the Macchi fighters? Wheels? And inside of the gear cover doors? In some color photos it looks to be the underside gray, and in others more of a glossy warmer gray shade; but one neve...

It would help if you shared the list you already have.

Re: Osprey Macchi Units in Combat

I can't add much to the specific camo question, but I recently got this new book, and definitely recommend it. Very well-written history, a few pics I haven't seen before, new info on some details, and of course Mr. Caruana's lovely color profiles. The comments on photo recce variants are particular...

Re: Regia Aeronautica seat harness

These slightly fuzzy (!) drawings are actually from an aftermarket kit detailing set, but do have some interesting details.

Re: Squadron Books

I rather like all the "In Action" titles on WW2 Italian a/c. True, they probably aren't the last word in stand-alone references, but they manage to come up with some good color work, the photo section and printing is good, and they are good value. I definitely agree that Di Terlizzi's "Walk Around" ...

Re: Question about venturi tube on Macchi 202 serie 3

The C.202's underside venturi location may have varied some. On many aircraft it was not dead center as in the AeroDetail drawings, but offset and further forward as shown in the wartime manual drawing posted above, and in Ali d'Italia' s drawings. And on late C.202's and the C.205, it moved to a co...

Re: Macchi C.200/202/205 Recon versions

Just a quick update on this...the Britmodeller thread has now run over 50 posts and has some very interesting stuff. A few highlights: + The best published information on both types of cameras is in Marizio De Terlizzi's superb Squadron "Walk Around" title on the C.205. + Two different classes of ca...

Re: Macchi C.200/202/205 Recon versions

Thanks Vince! That is very helpful. I believe the Walk Around notes that the C.205V's vertical camera was the German-made Zeiss Rb 50/30. Yesterday I received my copy of the new Osprey "Combat Aircraft" series book, Macchi C.202/C.205V Units in Combat . It states that the C.202 instead used the Ital...

Macchi C.200/202/205 Recon versions

There is an interesting current discussion at Britmodeller re: Macchi fighters converted for reconnaissance use. Basically we are discovering that information in published references is a bit spotty! https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235111487-recce-macchis-c200-and-c202/ Does any...

Re: Mc 200 photo interpretation

Wow, I hadn't even noticed the band position - the most interesting anomaly of all! I wonder if it's possible this aircraft is a field repaint job? Perhaps tan sprayed over earlier all dark green uppers, as was seen on some C.202's. I certainly agree on the C.200, so many describe it as homely, but ...

Re: Macchi Veltro Colors?

Thanks for this very informative thread!

The linked picture of the seat is very interesting. The anti-corrosive primer is such a pale green shade, that it can be difficult to distinguish from GAC even in a good color photo.

Re: Mc 200 photo interpretation

Vince, that first photo is a perfect example! The pale appearance of the wing is no doubt helped along by some fading of the colors and weathering of the paint surface.

Also note how bright the wing fillet looks, it must be facing the sun more directly than either the fuselage or top of the wing.

Re: Mc 200 photo interpretation

Well...for whatever my opinions are worth...! + In my copy of the Osprey book, the photo you mention occurs on p.42. A better-quality shot which makes it look like the aircraft is fairly new (or newly re-painted?), and the finish in good condition. https://i.postimg.cc/Kj1VXrJT/263-DBA9-C-CEFF-4135-...
