SMER 1/48 CR32

Post by steveiow » Sat Dec 22, 2007 2:14 pm

I've just bought two of these kits, and on opening the box, found a pretty basic kit with a lot of flash, but a comprehensive decal sheet.
Any one tried one of these and whats the history of SMER?

Steven Eisenman built a SMER CR.32 as I recall. Its an ok kit and I have one also. If you have some spare money I would look into getting a Classic Airframes C.32, its quite a nice kit.

Vince,thanks for the reply.
I bought the SMER kit for it's cheapness ( and it shows!).For the price of the Classic kit,I can buy 4 SMER's and the fact that my modelling is no-where near as good as anything on this site.
Now-who are SMER??

Yes you definitely can't beat the price of SMER kits, in fact SMER kits can build-up into nice models:

SMER is a Czech outfit. Some of their newer molds are pretty good although their kits mostly lack detail in the cockpits. SMER are excellent kits to get started on.

Vince
Thanks for the info.
I agree with what you say about details in these kits-the first thing to be junked is the pilot 'moulding'.

Two very old and very dusty Cr 32s.

They are 1/50 scale so a bit small compared to the normal 1/48. You need to sand down the fence post massive struts. I also replaced the little air foils above the ailerons with thinner sheet plastic. Probably should have used even thinner. The markings are a mix of spares, painted and strips.

There is no such thing as an unbuildable kit, just some kits are not worth building. :D

Steven, thanks and great work. With a little patience, these little SMER kits build up into fine models.

Thank you for the compliment.

But "fine model", that may be more wish than fact,

I think the 1/48 Tauro Macchi C.202 falls into this category.

I firmly agree. I have all three versions of the CA CR.32. Whether I ever get around to building them is another thing entirely.

Are you the great Modeldad from HS! I am red with confusion, and I am putting a bottle of Châblis in the fridge for your visit in Paris! Cheers Steven!
