Hasegawa MC.202 1/48 wing guns

Post by pmahoney » Wed Jun 02, 2010 3:24 am

Hi - I'm a very, very infrequent poster here, but I very much enjoy the info I have read on this site. I am doing one of my first Italian a/c (although I have built just about every other WW2 nationality), and I am a little curious how people handle the wing armament on the Hasegawa 1/48 scale MC.202. The slabs of plastic that are there don't represent much of anything resembling a gun barrel to me. I understand a lot of a/c didn't carry these guns, but I'm assuming based on my limited research that the associated panels and shell ejector chutes remain on the wings? Do you just slice the 'guns' off and leave it at that. If you do keep the armament, do you replace the barrels? Just curious what peoples' approaches are with this area.
thanks in advance!
I'm going to attempt smoke rings on this one as well, so I am looking forward to the challenge!

Late Serie I-III, Serie IV and early Serie V some Folgores carried the Breda-SAFAT 7.7mm MGs. The wing-mounted MGs were discountinued on late Serie V, Serie VI-X and early Serie XI. On these planes a plate covered the gun ports. On the Hasegawa kit, depending on the plane you're modeling, cut out the guns. If you have a photo of the plane your modeling with the wing guns mounted, replace the MG muzzle with sprue. Leave the feed ammo hatch, the access hatch and the underwing empty shell ejection port.

thanks very much. That had been my plan, more or less, but I just wanted some additional thoughts. That slab of plastic is so out of place in an otherwise-well detailed kit!
I appreciate the info and the reply
thanks again!
