Re: My Tangerine Dream
It was to be fast and easy project - well - it's definitely not. I've been busy with my business activities for several weeks and had no time for modelling. But the most important thing about this kit is that I really do not enjoy building it. It overengineered, not easy to build and made of nasty milky plastic. Nevertheless - yesterday I did some progress and now it's ready to be primed and painted orange. And I'm quite excited and curious about the result. Well - we will see....

Wow, we're almost at the same point. Here's my 1/48th Ocidental build. Mine will represent a USAF advanced trainer of the 50's.
BTW, I'm REALLY curious how you obtained your print copy of the Federal Standard 595C Colors?

It's taken a couple of months to move along this far (initial painting disaster required stripping it all down and starting over again!). And I've still got a long way to go. But I want to show the decals Vince so generously provided for this project.

Re: My Tangerine Dream
It looks amazing. The color matching is excellent. What did you use for Identification Yellow (actually orange) - Shade 48 - FS 33538? Also I sent you an update of the drawing (print) with a more accurate dorsal antennae housing + improvements in the drawing (check your email Nov 06, 2023).

My brother served in WW2 as a Sperry ball gunner on B24. Flew out of Libia and later Forga Italy. I served in the Air Force and served my overseas tour in Morocco.

Re: My Tangerine Dream
I spent a lot of time on Scalemates comparing paints to my memory and the postcard I have from the era from Bartow AFB. I finally settled on Mr. Color 58 Orange Yellow. I'm really pleased with decision; I believe it is a very close approximation.
Thanks for the note re: the revision; I found it. For some reason had saved the earlier version as "final". Got it now...
I'll keep you updated. And thanks again. This project is very special.

...makes you decade-plus older than I; oldest known living first cousin is 82 those born before 1942 if still alive haven't seen in decades. Mom & Dad were married full decade before I came along both passing 57 days from each other in 2015 five months short of their 75th Anniversary.Vincent Fiore wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 2:27 amMy brother served in WW2 as a Sperry ball gunner on B24. Richard - your work is just outstanding. The story too. Very touching tribute to your father.davenport49 wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 7:03 amIt's taken a couple of months to move along this far (initial painting disaster required stripping it all down and starting over again!). Re: My Tangerine Dream
I've painted antiglare black panel and delicately accented panel lines with brown wash. My camera still makes the color red - it's definintely orange. Like carrot juice

Today I returned from Italy and I just couldn't resist putting those decals on. I'm still waiting for code numbers and letters.
