I couldn't agree with you more.
I think the answer might be in the Library of Congress. Everything about world countries, wars, science and technology are within its walls.
Remember, when the war ended, a lot of documents from the axis forces were brought to the US, including names and detailed information on German and Italian Scientists!
If Longhi did indeed work in the US, right after WW2 at Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory, then maybe there might be a connection with the RE2007 - RE2008 and F86.

I just received a 1/72 drawing of the Re 2007 from a friend. I would like to scratch build a model of it. The plan shows no dihedral of the wing could this be correct?
