macchi mc-202 in swiss service

Post by Elias » Thu Feb 12, 2009 5:42 pm

Hello to all!

I've seen the Mc-202 kit from Tauro in 1/48,that contains Swiss markings.

Does anybody know anything about the use of Macchi in Swiss Air Force?

This is a good question. There was an arrangement to sell some C.202s to the Swiss, but nothing came of it, as far as I know, because there were never enough C.202s to satisfy Italian demand. The planes would have been sold to raise much needed hard-currency, something the Italians were short of in 1942-43.

I've never heard about Swiss 202s, and Vince's answer makes sense. But it could be a very nice what-if: smoke rings overpainted with huge white-red stripes and crosses...stunning.

Your welcome Elias. If you have a look at the back cover of ADI# 22 you'll see an artist's rendition of a possible Swiss C.202 in a solid color. If you don't have a copy of ADI# 22 I'll scan it. I agree, a Swiss C.202 in any camo scheme would be attractive!

Hi Vince,

Might I presume on your offer of a scan of that Swiss scheme? I'd love to see it!

Best wishes,
Brendan

Here you go. Its interesting to note that although a profile is provided at the end of ADI#22 no reference is made to this or any Swiss C.202s in the text (that I could find). The profiles were done by Richard Caruana. I'll take a Swiss C.202 over a Luftwaffe C.202 any day :)

Thanks Vince! I think I'm going to do a what-if, but add the white neutrality stripes.

Best wishes,
Brendan
