C.202 wheel well covers

Post by mholly » Thu Feb 13, 2025 8:37 pm

Was it any rule when/why they were installed, or removed? Or did they come installed from manufacturer and removed in the field, for some reason? Did it depend on the particular series?
The open bays look much more attractive from the modeling standpoint but I prefer realism and guesstimate that in Africa they were useful. Thanks in advance.

The main wheel covers were rarely removed and one might conclude from that there might have been a directive issued, however there was none - at least not to my knowledge. Unless you have a photo, I would leave the main wheel well covers on because as I mentioned the wheel well covers were infrequently removed. The rear-wheel is a different matter and aside from the C.202 Prototype there were no rear-wheel well covers (although the rear-wheel well doors would make an appearance on the C.205V and in some cases the doors were removed) but two fairings, ahead and aft of the rear-wheel that were sometimes removed during an overhaul and one or both fairings left off - often the rear fairing was not replaced following an overhaul.

Very interesting, I think that I would have got this one wrong, so thank you.

Cheers
