More Questions on Macchi 202 prototype

Post by GAJouette » Tue Apr 01, 2008 2:41 am

Hello All,
I'm in the early stages of my next project which is a conversion of the 21c Macchi 202 to the prototype configuration.I chose the 21c kit for the project for two reasons, one it's cheap and two I've a number of them in the To Do pile.If this goes well I'll most likely do a second conversion using one of my PCM Macchi 202's.
Now for my questions. From the very few drawings I have and from what I've read there's little differences between the prototype and the production model. Most can be taken care of fairly quickly. I understand that MM 445 had Macchi 200 wings.Would that mean no wing mounted guns or their access hatches? From the photos I've no idea what so ever.As of now I'm not sure if I'll camouflage my prototype or go with painted in Aluminium with National Colors on the tail.If I go with the camouflaged example, what scheme was it painted in?From the photos in AliD'Italia #22 page6 and another from Squadron Macchi C 202 In Action page 5.I can't tell if it's in the Honeycomb scheme (Grid) or Scheme C 8 poached eggs.Anyone have an insight? One last question, would the udersides been in Grigio Minetico or Grigio Azzurro? I'm thinking Grigio Menetico would be correct because of the time frame GM was used (1937-1941) and the prototype appeared in August 1940.But as before I can't really tell from the photos.Any suggestions or information would be of great help with this project. Thanks for your time.
Regards,
Gregory Jouette

If you send me your mail address (my is r.trotta@postanet.it ) in the next days I shall send you a photo from the rear of the C202 prototype where it is possible to see the poached eggs camouflage and it seems that there are no access hatches on the wings; for the undersufaces I think it could be correct the use of Grigio mimetico (a word similar to mimetic not minetico or menetico!)
