Another photo collection to share with STORMO! Here there are some photos taken in August 1997 on the Garibaldi carrier. The Garibaldi was an Italian aircraft carrier and the first through-deck
ship built for the Marina Militare and the first Italian ship built to operate fixed-wing aircraft. The ship was equipped with STOVL aircraft and helicopters. The Garibaldi was involved in
air-combat operations in Somalia, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Libya. The Giuseppe Garibaldi displaced 13,850 tons fully loaded and has now been decommissioned on October 1 2024, and replaced by
the much larger Trieste displacing over 38,000 tons, one of the largest European capital ships active in the Mediterranean.

A McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II Plus aboard the Giuseppe Garbaldi. The AV-8B was used by the United States Marine Corps (USMC), the Spanish Navy and the Marina Militare.
The AV-8B is being replaced by the F-35B in the Italian Navy.

A beautiful photo of an Italian Harrier II Plus. Note the wing-tip missle racks. The Italian Harrier II Plus was armed with
the AIM-7 Sparrow or Selenia Aspide medium-range air-to-air missile, and the Maverick AGM-65 anti-tank missiles when deployed on support
missions in Europe and the Middle East.
