Avia FL.3 - Ali D'Italia Mini Serie #4

Designed by Francis Lombardi and test flown on November, 1938 during a visit by Bruno Mussolini, the Avia FL.3 represented a new level of training aircraft. Good handling, maneuverable, stable flight, good visibility and side by side seating were all virtues sought by new pilots. The flight schools criticized it for being too easy to fly and impossible to spin! After the Armistice of 1943, the Germans, who also appreciated it flying qualities sent 145 to various flight in Germany. It was built after the war and continues to be popular in Italy. A great read about this neat little aircraft. 24 pages.

Ali D'Italia Mini Serie #3 - Fiat RS.14

The Italian Air Ministry issued specifications in 1939 for a "fast maritime reconnaissance seaplane". Fiat responded with the the RS.14, a quick and beautiful aircraft. With a top speed of 235 mph and highly maneuverable (even able to loop), the RS. 14 provided good service to the Regia Aeronautica. It carried its' offensive weapons in a easily detachable pod under the fuselage centerline making re-arming simple and quick, the first recorded use of this concept. The 3 engined Cant Z.506 was used for air-sea rescue and the RS.14 more for reconnaissance work. 24 pages.

Caproni-Campini CC.1 Jet Aircraft - Ali D'Italia Mini Serie #5

In January, 1931 the Air Ministry had received from Secondo Campini (Bologna 1904-Milan 1980) a proposal for on a new powerplant which promised to offer aircraft very high speed and altitude. This resulted in an Italian manufactured jet propelled aircraft first flown on August 27, 1940 - the second jet aircraft to fly in history and the first to a fly long-distance flight. Even though only two examples were built, one of them in excellent condition survives as a testament to Italian aircraft and powerplant design, engineering and ingenuity. Made possible by the financial investment of Count Gianni Caproni, the CC.1 represented a technological leap forward by the Italian aeronautical industry. A must read for all fans of Italian aircraft. 24 pages.

SAI-Ambrosini SAI.207 - Ali D'Italia Mini Serie #9

The Ambrosini S.A.I. 207 was developed in the last dramatic phases of the war. It was a light interceptor built entirely of wood and was an extremely good aeroplane for the engine power it had. First flown in October 1940, this small light-weight all-wood aircraft reached 560mph in a dive, proving that it's designer, ing. Stefanutti, had crafted a carefully worked out, clean and aerodynamic aircraft. 24 pages.
